Toward the New Era of Railway Solutions

At present, the communication standards that are applied in the rail industry include WTB (Wired Train Bus), MVB (Multifunction Vehicle Bus), and CAN serial networking. However, these conventional standards have several disadvantages, such as insufficient bandwidth and limited abilities to support multiple services. For this reason, railway communication systems are now turning to IP-based solutions for higher operational efficiency and easier maintenance.

In response to the rising market trend, Moxa has taken the lead in the implementation of IP-based technologies for rolling stock and trackside applications, with emphasis on data acquisition and condition monitoring. Our solutions include rugged, modular RTU controllers and Ethernet remote I/Os, both of which are EN 50155/50121 certified for harsh environments.

Ready-to-Run RTU Controllers
The ioPAC-8020 is a modular RTU controller with 5 or 9 slots built in for front-end data acquisition and control. It is equipped with a powerful processor and supports a variety of interfaces. The two embedded Ethernet switch ports allow system engineers to easily build a control network with open standards and daisy-chain connectivity. The ioPAC-8020 also supports power redundancy to ensure non-stop data transmission to the controller and uninterrupted communications management in the control network. Along with the hot swappable I/O modules, daisy-chain connectivity, and built-in power redundancy design, this rugged RTU controller delivers higher reliability, availability, and safety, compared to other rugged platforms on the market.

Robust Ethernet Remote I/Os
The ioLogik E1500 is a compact Ethernet Remote I/O, featuring an aluminum housing and a wide operating temperature range from -40 to 85°C. This rugged platform is fully compliant with EN 50155/50121 standards, and adheres to strict EN conformities. It also comes with two embedded Ethernet switch ports that can be used to form a daisy-chain topology for easy cabling in space-limited environments.
